Why Follow Quran Alone?

Many people in the Muslim ummah have been taught that the Quran is not supposed to be followed on its own, but that it is supposed to be followed along with the man-made Hadith narrations, or what they call "the sayings of the prophet" or "the sunnah of the prophet." However, the Quran makes it very clear that we are not supposed to be following anything else but the Quran itself for guidance.

"That is THE BOOK, there is no doubt in IT, A GUIDANCE for the pious."

He makes it clear that in THE BOOK there is no doubt in it, and that it is a Guidance for us.

What is the definition of guidance?

Guidance: Help, direction, or instruction that leads someone to the correct path, decision, or course of action.

So this is what the Quran is supposed to do for us. It is supposed to help us, instruct us, and lead us to the correct path, decision, or course of action.

Notice how Allah is referring to ONE BOOK. One book in which there is no doubt in it. One book that is supposed to guide us. There is nothing else mentioned here.

They say the Hadith is from the messenger. But the messenger himself said that he only follows what is revealed to him and nothing else.

"And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Bring us a QUR'AN other than this or change it." Say, [O Muhammad], "It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I ONLY follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day.""

According to 10:15, they wanted the messenger to bring something else other than the Quran that was revealed to him, or change it to say something else.

What was the messenger's response?

He said he could not change it on his own accord, and that he only follows what is REVEALED to him, for he fears that if he were to DISOBEY Allah, the punishment of a tremendous Day would come upon him.

With his response, he is making it clear that if he were to change the Quran, bring something else other than it, or follow something different, it would be DISOBEDIENCE to Allah.

Is the Hadith not "other than" the Quran? It is. Therefore, it could not have come from the messenger.

And since the messenger only followed what was revealed to him [i.e., The Quran (6:19)], and changing the Quran, bringing something else other than it, or following something else would have been disobedience to Allah, then the same would apply to all of us.

Following the Quran alone is the best way that we can ensure our religion and practice stays clean and pure, and free from corruption. Because it is the only thing Allah swt tells us He would protect.

"Indeed, it is We who sent down (Al-dhik'a) the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian."

And before someone tries to play "devil's advocate" and asks, "Well, how do we know the Quran is the Reminder?"

"And We did not give him, knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a Reminder and a clear Qur'an"

This verse is referring to what the messenger is reciting and how they would call him a poet.

The pronoun used here in Arabic is "Huwa," which in this context, since it is referring to a thing and not a person, the proper usage would be "it" (singular form), meaning one thing. And that one thing Allah is calling it the Reminder and the Quran. These are two descriptions of the same thing.

These man-made Hadith narrations that many sectarians try to defend and say that we must follow — Allah NEVER promised to protect them, which is why they are filled with lies, falsehood, and contradiction.

Some of them even go as far as to say that the Hadith is revelation from Allah swt.

But would Allah reveal something containing lies, contradiction, and falsehood?

No, He would never do that. This is why He made it clear that if the Quran had come from anyone other than Him, they would have found in it much contradiction.

"Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction."

Allah is letting us know that IF the Quran were from someone else and NOT from Allah, they WOULD have found in it (the Quran) a lot of contradiction. Showing us that SINCE the Quran has NO CONTRADICTION, it is indeed from Allah.

Which would mean that anything that DOES have contradiction, lies, or falsehood is not from Allah.

Does the Hadith have contradiction, lies, and falsehood?

YES. That is why they have different sects following different Hadith narrations from hundreds of different narrators that no one can verify. Some are considered "weak," while others are considered "authentic." Many of which contradict what the Quran already says.

An "authentic" Hadith is one that is considered "true" or "trustworthy."

A "weak" Hadith would be one that is considered "false" or "unreliable."

And what's interesting is that even in that, there are disputes.

For example: For every Hadith that someone looks at as "authentic," there will always be someone who sees it as "weak."

Nothing but a game of picking and choosing. Following nothing but hearsay.

No wonder Allah says in the Quran:

"These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth, then in which Hadith AFTER Allah and His verse will they believe?"

Allah is posing a rhetorical question exposing the obvious: that there should be no Hadith AFTER Allah and His verses in which you believe.

We are not supposed to believe in anything after the Quran because Allah tells us that the Quran is the truth, and the only thing that can come after the truth is ERROR.

"That is Allah, Your Lord, The Truth…and what can be AFTER the truth EXCEPT error. Then how are they deluded?"

Allah tells us that He Ordained (Farda) the Quran upon us.

"Indeed, [O Muhammad], He who Ordained upon you the Qur'an will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error.""

If you notice, whenever Allah tells us to follow the Quran, it is always ONLY the Quran. He never partners the Quran with anything else. He never mentions Hadith. Not once.

If the Hadith was so important for us to follow, and so vital to the deen — with many sectarians saying it is just as important as the Quran — then why doesn't Allah mention it even once?

There is nothing in the Quran at all telling us to follow Hadith. Nothing at all that connects the Quran to a secondary source of guidance.

What does Allah swt say in the Quran about Hadith?

"And of the people is he who purchases (Lahwa Al-Hadithi) Diversionary Narrations to MISLEAD [others] from the Path of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment"

The word "Lahwa" comes from the trilateral root lām-hā-wāw, which means: to distract or divert.

The word "Hadith" comes from the triliteral root ḥā-dāl-thā, which means: story, tales, statement, narration.

And Allah is telling us that there are those who purchase these to mislead from the way of Allah.

We know the way of Allah is the Quran according to:

"And this is the path of your Lord, straight. We have certainly explained the verses in detail for a people who take heed."

So this Lahwa Hadith would lead one away from what the Quran teaches.

Does the Hadith that the sectarians follow lead people away from the Quran?

Yes. The Hadith contradicts the Quran many times, telling people one thing while the Quran says another.

• The Quran says give the one who commits Zina 100 lashes. Yet the Hadith says to stone them to death. That is a completely different punishment than what the Quran prescribed.
• The Quran says there are 3 obligatory prayers. Yet the Hadith says there are 5.
• The Quran says there is no compulsion in religion. Yet the Hadith says you can kill the innocent apostate.
• The Quran only says Muhammad was married to women. Yet the Hadith says he married a 6-year-old child.
• The Quran says anyone who believes and does righteous deeds will go to paradise. Yet the Hadith says anyone who is white goes to paradise and anyone who is dark is going to hell.

The Hadith also makes laws and rulings that Allah did not give, nor did Allah give anyone else the authority to give them.

• The majority of women will be in Hell.
• Music is haram.
• Gold, silver, and silk are haram for men.
• Perfume is haram for women.
• Women and men shaking hands is haram.
• You must eat with your right hand.
• Passing gas breaks your wudu.
• Women cannot travel alone.

All of these, and many more, are laws, rulings, and legislation from the Hadith narrations that the Quran does not support. It is taking people off the path of the Quran and placing them on a new path that contradicts it. So this would be considered Lahwa Al-Hadithi.

Not only that, but Allah says He does not share in His legislation with anyone.

"…They have not besides Him any protector, and He DOES NOT share in His legislation with anyone."

Meaning no one has the right to make laws and rulings for this deen except Him. Yet, all throughout the Hadith, there are rulings and laws coming from humans that Allah gave no authority for.

Only the shaitan would want us to follow something that was invented by man, not protected by Allah, and is filled with lies, contradiction, and falsehood.

They say that they are the "sayings of the prophet," but Allah swt tells us that we already have the sayings of the prophet, and it is the Quran.

"Indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger. And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe. Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you take heed. [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds."

And what Allah says next is interesting. Pay attention!

"And if he (Muhammad) had made up about Us some sayings, We would have seized him by the right hand; Then We would have cut from him the aorta. And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him."

So in these verses, Allah is saying that the Quran is the (Qawlu Rasulin) sayings of the messenger. Then Allah swt says that if the messenger had MADE UP about Him some sayings, He would have killed him, and there would have been no one who could have stopped it.

Is the Hadith the sectarians follow not sayings that were made up or INVENTED about Allah? That is exactly what they are. Allah swt's name is all throughout the Hadith narrations. They even have an entire collection of Hadith called "Hadith Qudsi," which they claim are the words of Allah Himself. But they are nothing but lies and conjecture.

"And who is worse than one who invents about Allah a lie or denies His verses? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed."

They also say that the Hadith is the "sunnah of the prophet." There is absolutely no statement in the Quran that says "sunnah of the prophet." It does not exist. There is only one sunnah, and that is the sunnah of Allah, which Allah placed upon the prophet.

"There is not to be upon the Prophet any discomfort concerning that which Allah has imposed upon him. [This is] the established way (Sunnata) of Allah with those [prophets] who have passed on before. And ever is the command of Allah a destiny decreed."

How can they possibly expect us, or even ask us, to believe in something that does not even exist in the Quran at all?

It does not matter where people say these Hadith come from. Allah warns us about following anything other than His guidance and His way.

Following anything other than the Quran will turn you away from the Quran itself. You will begin to believe things that contradict the Quran. You will begin to believe things that Allah did not say. You will begin to make religious decisions in your life based upon judgments that Allah swt did not give, and they have nothing to do with the religion at all.

Why? Because ONLY Allah swt can give the judgments, legislation and guidance for this religion. Anything else is from the hands of man, and it has come AFTER the Quran. And we are not to believe in anything after it.
