Quran is Fully Detailed

Many people who follow the Hadith, including sheikhs, imams, and scholars, say that the Quran is not fully detailed—that it does not have all the answers and that Allah did not explain everything.

Allah, however, makes it clear that everything is explained in detail in the Quran.

"…Never was it [the Qur’an] a HADITH invented, but a confirmation of what is between their hands, and a DETAILED EXPLANATION of EVERYTHING (Kulli Shayin), and guidance and mercy for a people who believe."

In this verse, Allah is making it clear that the Quran is not a Hadith that was invented, meaning it was not something made up, but that it was revealed. It confirms what came before it, and it explains everything in detail.

What is the definition of explanation?

Explanation: a statement, reason, or set of details provided to make a complex or confusing idea clear, easy to understand, or justified.

So Allah is telling us that this is what the Quran is supposed to do. It is supposed to give statements, reasons, and details to make everything clear to us. Not some things…everything.

And because Allah has explained everything in the Quran in detail, there is no need to seek anyone other than Him as a judge. Which is why He said:

"Say, ‘Then is it OTHER than ALLAH I should SEEK as JUDGE while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?’"

This is a rhetorical question that Allah poses in 6:114, and He asks it to make the truth obvious. The implied answer is, "No." No one should be sought as a judge other than Allah because He is the One who has already revealed to you the Book, explained in detail.

In other words, Allah is affirming that He alone is the Judge, and the reason He gives is that He has already provided His detailed Book for us.

Allah also tells us that He left NOTHING out of the Book.

"…WE have left nothing out of the Book. Then to their Lord shall they all be gathered together."

Now, some people might say this verse is not talking about the Quran but is instead referring to the Book of Decrees that is with Allah (swt). One could understand it that way if they were reading the verse by itself. But when it comes to the Quran, one of the key factors to understanding its verses is context, which often comes from reading the verses before or after.

In this case, we are going to read the verse before and after 6:38 to give it context and understand exactly what Allah is saying He has left nothing out of.

The verse BEFORE

"And they say, ‘Why is it that no SIGN (Ayatun) has been sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say, ‘Allah is surely powerful enough to send down a sign, but most of them do not know.’"

In 6:37, it begins with people asking why a sign has not been SENT DOWN. Allah then responds by saying that He is surely able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know.

The word that Allah uses here is "Ayatun" which is the same word that Allah uses to describe the verses in the Quran.

The verse AFTER

"But those who deny Our VERSES are deaf and dumb within darknesses. Whomever Allah wills - He leaves astray; and whomever He wills - He puts him on a straight path. (Siratin Mustaqimun)."

First, they ask why no sign has been sent down. Allah says that He is surely able to send down a sign in 6:37. Then, in 6:38, He says, "We have left nothing out of the Book…" Immediately afterward, in 6:39, He says, "But those who deny Our VERSES are deaf and dumb within darknesses."

So, based on the context, the passage is talking about the Ayat (signs/verses) that Allah SENT DOWN, not the Book of Decrees that we do not have access to. He is telling us that they ask for a sign, and that He is able to send one down, and that He has left nothing out of the Book, but those who deny His verses are deaf and dumb and in darkness, so they cannot see them. It is the verses (the Quran) that Allah (swt) is saying He left nothing out of.

Allah also tells us that the Quran is a CLARIFICATION for EVERYTHING.

"And We have sent down to you the Book as a CLARIFICATION OF EVERYTHING (Kulli Shayin) and as guidance and mercy and good tidings for the Muslims."

What is the definition of clarification?

Clarification: an EXPLANATION that makes something CLEAR, understandable, or free from confusion.

So Allah is telling us that this is what the Quran is supposed to do. It is supposed to make things clear, understandable, and free from confusion.

So if this is what the Quran is meant to do, why do some people claim that there is another book, or Books…that are supposed to explain the Quran?

How can there be a book or books that explains the Book which Allah Himself says explains everything?

That makes absolutely zero sense.

Allah also tells us that He has given, in this Quran, EVERY (Kulli) kind of example.

"And We have certainly EXPLAINED (Sarrafna) in this Qur'an for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute."

So Allah is telling us that in this Quran He has given every kind of example for mankind. Which means all the examples that we need regarding our deen, to learn from and to follow are in the Quran.

This is why Muhammad was a good example for us, because he followed the examples that were in the Quran, which made him a great Muslim. Not because he created his own examples and guidance.

What happens when someone says the Quran is not fully detailed or that it does not have all the answers, or that it has missing information?

When someone says this, they are attributing a flaw to the Quran that cannot exist because the Quran is a perfect Book.

It is a perfect Book because this is a perfect deen, as Allah makes clear:

"…this day I have perfected for you your Religion (deen)…"

The Quran was sent down as the Book to guide us.

Why would Allah provide an imperfect Book to guide humanity through a perfect Religion (deen)? Again, that makes absolutely no sense. Since the religion is perfect, then the Book that is supposed to guide us through it would no doubt be perfect as well.

When you say that the Quran is lacking information that we need for our religion, you are, by default, claiming that the Quran is insufficient.

What is the definition of insufficient?

Insufficient: something that is not enough, inadequate, or lacking what is needed.

And that contradicts the Quran, since Allah explicitly says that it is a detailed explanation of EVERYTHING and a clarification of EVERYTHING.

Allah (swt) asks us in the Quran:

"Is it NOT SUFFICIENT for them that We have sent down to you the Book which is recited to them?"

The answer should be, "Yes, it is sufficient." The Book is sufficient.

But those who disbelieve will say, "No, it's not enough."

You become a disbeliever by default when you reject the Quran's perfection. Because not only are you saying that the Quran is not enough or not explained in detail, but you are also disbelieving in the verses that explicitly state that it is.

And Allah constantly reminds us:

"Indeed, those who do not believe in the verses of Allah, Allah will not guide them, and for them is a painful punishment."

When someone continues to reject the verses that state the Quran is sufficient and fully explained in detail, Allah does not guide them to understanding. As a result, they continue to believe the lie.
